NEWSLETTER – October 2011
It was difficult to believe racing at Bideford on Sunday in near perfect conditions, that we are now at the end of the UK triathlon season for another year. Many congratulations to everyone who made the trip to North Devon and raced so well but especially Ceeli (1st lady) and Martin (2nd man) who were amongst the prizewinners and Francis who also picked up a prize for the youngest competitor.
Thank you to James, Andy, Chris and Julian who came along to the Committee Meeting last night. Its great to see some new faces and fresh ideas for the Club. If there is anyone else who would like to come along, our next meeting is at Burnham Pool on Wednesday 2nd November following the 8 – 9pm swim.
On Monday 19th December, we will be having our annual Christmas drinks at the Gardiners Arms in Cheddar. Our swim session for this night only will start at 7.30pm instead of 9.00pm .
Wednesday 12th October is curry night. Please can you let Bev know if you would like to come along via bevcrockett@hotmial.co.uk.
TRAINING.
Last Friday, 30th September was the last river swim of the season.
Club cycle on 13th November, 4th December and 8th January. Meet at Burnham on Sea Pool at 8.45 to leave at 9.00 am. All are welcome and no-one is left behind. The October bike ride will be the Club Championships time trial which will now take place on 30th October – details below.
Mike G is planning a turbo session before Christmas. Date to be confirmed.
Last year we notified members via email of informal off road running sessions and mountain bike rides throughout the winter. Please keep an eye on your emails for details of these and come along and join in. Additionally if you would like any company on your rides and runs, please let our members know.
EVENTS
The winter 5km race series starts at Burnham on 6th October and the autumn aquathlon (750,/7.5km) on 16th October. Details and entry forms on www.bospool.com. If there are any members not taking part who would be willing to marshall, please contact Martin at martin@bospool.com.
The Wyvern Christmas Cracker 10km race at Weston Super Mare on 11th December 2011 is filling up fast. Last year we won the group fancy dress with Santa and his sleigh and this year plans are underway to put on another great show from WCT. Confidentiality stops me from spilling the beans here in the newsletter, but please keep an eye on your emails and get your entries in now for the race.
Mal Simmons have been very busy with the website behind the scenes and we are now in a position to start updating it again. James Kyffin has joined the Committee and will help Mal in the task of uploading information so if you have any race information or reports, please send them to james@protexin.com.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Club Champion will be decided by the member who makes the biggest improvement on their times recorded earlier in the year. On Sunday 30th October, we will be timing the cycle and run. Please meet at Cheddar Pool car park at 8.45am for a 9.00 am start. Swim times will be recorded during the swim sessions on Monday 31st October and Wednesday 2nd November during our Club swim.
CLUB AGM
The AGM is at 7.30 pm on 18th November at the Crown in East Huntspill. All welcome and please can you let Ceeli know at secretary@westcountrytriathletes.co.uk for food catering. The meeting will be followed by a game of skittles.
Thank you for your nominations for Club Athlete. We have eight nominations; Jeannie Fry, Michelle Blackmore, Julian Hodge, Gordon Clark, Ceeli Miall, Matt Cooke, Martin Rogers and Garrad Bailey. These nominees have been asked to provide information about their year which I will send out shortly for members to vote.
If anyone has pictures of club members competing throughout the year, please can you forward these to James Kyffin as we are looking to show these during the AGM.
CLUB KIT
Our Club kit has been very much in evidence during the year and if anyone would like to order a new tri suit for next year or any other kit, please can you contact Bev at bevcrockett@hotmail.co.uk as she is raising an order.
