Course Details

Prior to the actual race, final course detail and on the day information will be posted on the West Country Tri web site, http://www.westcountrytriathletes.co.uk/ .

The event is based at The Kings of Wessex Sports Centre at Cheddar found by this link http://www.letsgothere.co.uk/lgtnet/attraction/0018339-0.aspx (contains a map). This is close to the industrial estate and Kings of Wessex School. Follow signs for the leisure centre and recycling centre (busy on a Sunday)! The Sports Centre is modern with a 5 lane 25 m pool (500 m swim being 20 lengths). There are plenty of changing cubicles and there should be enough lockers (a £1 coin is required and is refundable).

Spectator viewing will be limited due to immediate pool areas needed for race officials. If the weather is fine, transition will take place immediately outside the pool area. Again, this may disappoint any spectators who would gain a good vantage point.

Course Marshals will be placed at strategic points on the run. This will take competitors out from the sports centre entrance car park, crossing the road, up to a small number of work units. A narrow path eventually opens out under an unused railway bridge. From here, runners are diverted towards the Axbridge reservoir, which is tackled clockwise. Another diversion from near the boat clubhouse takes runners back on a cycle path, eventually back to the railway bridge and return to the Sports Centre. To complete the course there is a sprint around the school sports field and finish at the centre. Phew!
