2 WCT members Ceeli Miall and Martin Rogers travelled up to Bristol last weekend to compete in Thornbury Running Club Aquathlon.

4 races in the space of 15 days and any normal person would be weary and tired. Not the case for our GB Age grouper Ceeli who seems to be getting stronger and stronger. After competing at Taunton Aquathlon (1k/10k) Burnham 5k and Super Sprint Aquathlon (250/2.5k) in the space of a week, she ventured up to Bristol to race in the Thornbury Aquathlon (1k/10k).

Racing in the fastest wave, Ceeli lead her lane all the way and climbed out the pool in a superb 15min 24secs, just 1 second ahead of me!! We were in 9th and 10th positions overall, over 3 minutes behind the first lady who swam her 40 lengths in 12.15! The scenic relatively flat 2 lap run enabled us to see our competitors at regular intervals and give us an idea of our positions. I quickly got into my rhythm and started to pick off those ahead of me one by one. After picking up her carefully wrapped jelly babies from transition, Ceeli set about chasing the leading lady, but making up over 3 mins was never going to be easy. Never one for giving up a challenge, Ceeli ran hard all the way and clawed back almost a minute, but had to settle for 2nd lady, maintaining her position of 9th overall in a time of 58mins 54secs.

By the end of the 1st lap, I found my way into 2nd place but a long way behind the leader and was happy to hold onto my position for the 2nd lap. I continued to push hard but even then the leader was getting further ahead. I managed the 2nd fastest run split of the day and was happy with my form finishing in a time of 54mins 03secs.

This was a really well organised event at a good venue and maybe one we could get a few more of us to next year.
